The Rookie

After Shopping at the Burnaby Costco today, I decided to check out Burnaby Lake. There days, I hardly get a chance go there. Boy am I glad I did. I saw a juvenile Bald Eagle. It was just taking a bath when I got there. There was an eagle nest on the south shore of the lake and I think he( or she - I couldn’t tell difference and I wasn’t going to check) is the chick from the nest. He stayed at the lake while his parents have moved on (probably to Brakendale) I any kid, he doesn’t want to move out. I think he has been surviving on the spawning Salmon at the lake. After the bath, he flew over to a tree not to far from a trail. I walked over to the trail to get more pictures. It was so frustrating. The tree was only about 30 ft away, However, just 5 feet away ,between me and the eagle, was 1 silly branch which my auto focus kept wanting to focus on. I still got a few pictures any way. If I also saw the usual (Wood and Mallard Ducks, Teals and Canada Geese etc.) There were also 2 white domestic geese with their wings clipped so they can’t flew. Someone had released them at the lake. Why would would someone to that. They don’t belong there. They probably won’t survive long as they can’t fly out of danger.

West End of an East Bound Sheep

As a kid, one of my favourite activity was going to Jasper and Banff and looking for for wildlife. I remember one trip when I was 12 , we saw a herd of Mountain Sheep (ewes and lambs) feeding on the side of the Yellowhead Hwy before Jasper. I got out of our car to take a picture. The sheep just keep eating. I wanted too get a better picture, so I took one step towards them. The sheep looked up and took one step away from me. So I took another step towards them and the sheep took another one away. So I took another one towards them and guest what the sheep did. They took another aways. So I repeated my move and they repeated theirs, Again and again etc. All the while my dad was laughing watching me chase a bunch of sheep down the road but I did a great picture of the West End of an East bound sheep.

I kept that picture for along time but can no longer find it so I have decided to add a picture of Mountain sheep from my 2005 trip. If I can find the old picture I will replace it.

Does anyone else have any stories of making a fool of themselves while trying to get a wildlife picture?

Team Otter

I resently heard on the radio station NW980 about an otter breaking into the Sun Yat-Sen Garden and ‘murdering’ the coy fish. I just wanted to say that I am part of team otter. He is doing what otters do naturally. I know some of the coy is over 50 years old but otters are native to BC , coys are not. Beside otters are very cute. Go team Otter. If they hadn’t close the garden I would love down to there to get his picture.( do it very carefully as otters are wild creatures). So leave him alone to be an otter. Let me know which team you are on

Bird From George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary

Last July, I photograph the above bird at the George C Reifel Sanctuary.  It is one of my most favourite spot for bird photography. I really like this picture but, have not been able to identify the specie of bird. Does anyone what type of bird it is?  I would be grateful if someone could Identify it.

Fund Raising

I am very excited that One of my Picture," Just Hanging Around" sold at a silent auction to raise funds for building a Mission House in Cuba for $250.00. I just glad to help out a great cause. If anyone else is interest in helping, please contact North Shore Alliance Church.
